AVONDALE, Ariz. -- Avondale police are asking for information from the public as they investigate an attempted kidnapping of a 13-year-old boy.
According to police, the teen was walking home from a friend's house in the area of Fairway Drive and Adams Street on May 19 at approximately 11:15 a.m. when he saw a man get out of a car.
Police spokesman Sgt. Brandon Busse said the man grabbed onto the boy's wrist and told him "to get in" as he tried pulling him inside the vehicle. The teen was able to break free from the hold and flee the area.
Busse said the suspect was driving a silver four-door sedan with dark tinted windows, possibly a Honda. The victim described the interior of the vehicle as having black door panels, tan carpeting and a yellow air freshener hanging from the mirror.
The suspect is a white male, possibly in his 40s, with brown hair and a short brown beard. The victim described him as smelling strongly of cigarette smoke and having calloused hands.
Anyone with any information about the suspect's identity is asked to contact the Avondale Police Department at 623-333-7380 or Silent Witness at 480-WITNESS to remain anonymous.
