PHOENIX (AP) -- The Arizona Diamondbacks have signed first-round draft pick Bobby Borchering to a minor league contract that includes a $1.8 million signing bonus.
The third baseman from Fort Myers, Fla., was the 16th pick overall. Arizona also had the No. 17 pick, Notre Dame outfielder A.J. Pollock, who earlier inked a deal with a $1.4 million bonus.
Borchering was only the 13th of 32 picks to sign so far with a Monday deadline for reaching a deal.
Borchering, the Gatorade Florida player of the year, is a switch-hitter who hit .494 with 33 runs scored, 13 home runs and 37 RBIs for Bishop Verot High School.
