Attorney wants 9-year-old St. Johns killer in school full-timePosted: Updated:
FLAGSTAFF -- The attorney for a 9-year-old St. Johns boy who killed his father's roommate wants his client in school full-time while he awaits sentencing.
Benjamin Brewer filed a request made public Friday asking a judge to allow the boy to attend school at the Apache County juvenile detention center starting Monday.
The boy had been receiving his education at the detention facility for a couple of hours each day in the previous school year. But he didn't receive any credit for it.
The boy has been out of custody since late January. He pleaded guilty the following month to negligent homicide in the death of 39-year-old Timothy Romans. Prosecutors agreed to drop charges against him in the death of his father as part of a plea deal.
