PRESCOTT - The following is a press release from the Prescott Valley Police Department:
On August 9th at approximately 11:49 P.M. Prescott Valley Police Officers responded to a call of a disturbance with possible shots fired in the 4700 block of Lava Ln. in The Town of Prescott Valley.
Officers learned that there had been an argument between 22 year old Gerek Levi Burford of Prescott Valley and 26 year old Jeremy Cass Hopson, also of Prescott Valley. Witnesses reported that the two argued and fought. During the altercation witnesses heard what sounded like gunshots.
Hopson said that Burford was upset at him for playing the drums too loudly and getting the police called to his residence. He stated Burford allegedly had to get rid of some drugs as a result of the police being summoned to his residence. Burford allegedly left according to Hopson and returned a short time later. He stated Burford returned and may have seen him kissing Burford's sister. Hopson explained that Burford pointed a handgun at his head and threatened him. Burford reportedly then removed the magazine from the gun and ejected a round from it. Hopson engaged him in a physical altercation at that time to be able to escape the residence.
Burford admitted to a physical confrontation with Hopson and did not recall other facts. He admitted to being intoxicated. The Officer's investigation showed evidence consistent with his statement of intoxication.
Officers located a handgun at the scene and collected it for evidence.
Burford was arrested and booked at the Yavapai County Jail in Camp Verde for:
Aggravated assault (1 count)
Disorderly conduct (1 count)
Disorderly conduct per domestic violence (2counts)
Hopson was cited and released from the scene for three counts of disorderly conduct.
