At approximately 9 a.m. Thursday, Salvador Medina, 29, was released from the Arizona Department of Corrections after serving a sentence for sexual abuse/dangerous crime against children.

According to Phoenix police, Medina was on parole and had a tracking bracelet on his ankle, but at some point he removed the bracelet.

At approximately 4 p.m., three sisters, ages 15, 15, and 11, were buying school clothes near Southern and Central avenues. As they were getting into their car, police say Medina forced his way into the vehicle and threatened to kill the girl driving with a pair of scissors.

Phoenix police Sgt. Tommy Thompson said Medina forced the girls to drive to the area of 27th Avenue and Baseline Road where he sexually assaulted the older girls. He reportedly threatened to kill the 11-year-old if any of them tried to escape.

At approximately 9 p.m., Medina forced the girls to drive back to where he abducted them and let them go. Medina's vehicle was later found in the same parking lot.

Fifteen minutes later, Thompson said Medina approached two women with a 3-year-old child who were getting into a car near Dobbins Road and First Avenue. He asked them for money and put a knife to the abdomen of one of the women when she refused.

According to Thompson, Medina pulled the child from the car and threatened to take the child if he wasn't given money and the car. The woman gave him some money and pleaded to be let go. Medina took the money and left on foot.

Shortly after midnight, Medina called the police from a convenience market at Seventh Avenue and Dobbins Road. He told the police someone was following him and he felt his life was in danger.

Officers saw that Medina matched the description of the suspect in the sexual assault and robbery. Medina was detained and booked into jail. He is charged with kidnapping, sexual assault, aggravated assault and armed robbery.
