Ariz. union pres says some educators still waitingPosted: Updated:
PHOENIX -- The president of a union representing Arizona teachers and other school employees says some educators still don't know whether they'll have jobs for the school year about to start.
Arizona Education Association President John Wright says the AEA believes approximately 7,000 school employees received layoffs notices from school districts last spring due to state and local budget troubles.
Wright says most have since been recalled after districts approved new budgets, even though there's still uncertainty about how state funding will finally shake out.
But Wright says it seems that "a couple of thousand people who were working last year are now without jobs."
Wright also says very few districts are hiring new teachers.
