Surprise man gets prison for defrauding MedicarePosted: Updated:
PHOENIX -- A Surprise man was sentenced Tuesday to 2 1/2 years in prison, seven years of probation and ordered to pay Medicare $263,000 in restitution in connection with a fraud scheme.
Maricopa County prosecutors say 56-year-old Kieran Chikwendu filled unnecessary prescriptions for motorized wheelchairs through his medical supply store in Cave Creek and billed Medicare with information from beneficiaries in California.
They say Chikwendu pleaded guilty in May to charges of forgery, theft and fraudulent schemes.
