Helicopter instructor injured in crash near Prescott Valley

PRESCOTT VALLEY, Ariz. -- A helicopter crashed during a training flight near Prescott Valley Tuesday morning.

The crash occurred in a remote area approximately 12 miles northeast of Prescott Valley.

Yavapai County Sheriff's Office deputies had to hike to access the crash site.

YCSO spokesman Dwight D'Evelyn said the helicopter belongs to Guidance Helicopters based out of the Ernest A. Love Field in Prescott.

According to D'Evelyn, the instructor, William Ringer, sustained apparent non-life threatening injuries and was flown to a Flagstaff-area hospital.

The student passenger has been identified as Dale Clark, 34, from Prescott Valley. He was not injured.

YCSO is being assisted by the Chino Valley Police Department and several area EMS agencies.

The cause of the crash is unknown.

A representative from the National Transportation Safety Board began an investigation into the cause of the crash.
