Men with handgun, assault rifle rob armored car in Tempe

TEMPE -- Police officers are searching for two suspects who robbed an armored car guard in Tempe late Friday morning.

According to police, at approximately 11 a.m., two men approached a Loomis guard as he was exiting an armored truck at a Fry's grocery store at Baseline Road and McClintock Drive.

The driver was reportedly making a delivery to the Bank of America inside the store.

According to Tempe police, the suspects were armed with a handgun and an assault rifle and demanded money from the guard.

The suspects fled the area in a silver mid-2000 Nissan Sentra, which has damage to the left rear quarter panel on the driver's side. The vehicle was last seen in Mesa in the area of Country Club Drive and First Avenue.

The suspects got away with an undisclosed amount of money. The investigation is continuing with assistance from the FBI.

The suspects are described as African-American, medium build, 5 feet 9 inches to 5 feet 10 inches tall. One was wearing dark clothing, a do-rag, dark sunglasses, and a dark-colored hat pulled down low. The other was wearing dark clothing, a do-rag, and dark sunglasses.
