Routine traffic stop uncovers over $175,000 in drug moneyPosted: Updated:
TUCSON - The following is a release from the Department of Public Safety:
On Oct. 23, 2008, at 6:10 p.m., an Arizona Department of Public Safety (DPS) Officer stopped a 2006 Chevy pickup truck on the eastbound lanes of Interstate 10 at milepost 179 near Casa Grande for a traffic violation.A subsequent search of the vehicle revealed $175,266 in U.S. currency.
The cash was discovered under the back seat.
Police arrested Julio Cesar Chiquete, 42, of Tucson, on charges of money money laundering.
"Whether it's interstate 10, interstate 19, or interstate 40, we continue to arrest suspected drug couriers as they bring their product and drug related cash through Arizona.Our officers remain vigilant in this effort," said Roger Vanderpool, director of the Arizona Department of Public Safety.
