34th place in pre-K education

PHOENIX -- A new report puts Arizona at the bottom of the barrel for early education.

That report puts Arizona in 34th place nationwide in pre-kindergarten education.

Only 5,400 4-year-olds, about 5.6 percent, are enrolled in state-funded programs.

The rankings were based on factors such as how many children were served, how much money was spent per child and quality benchmarks.

Arizona received only 4 out of 10 on the quality standard checklist.
