TEMPE - An explosion at the science building at Arizona State University prompted evacuations on Monday evening.

Tempe Fire reports they received a call of an explosion in one of the labs at the university. The blast reportedly damaged cabinets inside the lab.

Officials did not know which chemicals had been mixed to cause the explosion.

According to Tempe Fire, a professor saw the explosion and a release of fumes. The professor got the few people that were in the building at the time out and called the Fire Department.

There reportedly was a strong odor coming from the building. Crews were testing to see if any material was toxic or hazardous.

There were no reports of injuries as a result of the explosion. Authorities say that the building will be closed throughout Tuesday morning.
