2 Men wounded in shooting near state fairgrounds

Drugs could have caused shooting

PHOENIX -- Phoenix police officers are investigating a shooting near the Arizona State Fairgrounds that occurred early Friday afternoon.

Police officers were called to 19th Avenue and Holly Street shortly before 1 p.m. Holly Street is between Encanto Boulevard and McDowell Road.

Officer Luis A. Samudio said an anonymous caller reported several shots fired and a female stated someone had been shot.

According to investigators, an altercation ensued with two individuals that were at a residence and several individuals that arrived in a gray passenger car.

Samudio said say two Hispanic males were shot during the altercation. They were transported to local hospitals, but their injuries are not life threatening.

Police are investigating why the altercation occurred, but did find a large amount of pot in the home.

One suspect is in custody, but police are still looking for additional suspects who left in the gray or silver vehicle in an unknown direction.

Police said the shooting had no relation to the Arizona State Fair.
