Aflac comes through for Valley manPosted: Updated:
PHOENIX -- We have a great ending to a story we brought you Tuesday.
This involves a Valley man who said he was having problems with Aflac Insurance.
Charles Resendez says he paid for disability insurance month after month just in case something ever happened.
Well, something did happen and he says it took 3 On Your Side to work out the kinks.
"Oh yeah, it's a burden lifted off my shoulders. That's for sure," Resendez said. "It's like a weight off my back now."
Resendez is a lot better today compared to earlier this week when he was complaining about his insurance company.
This is how he felt then.
"They've hung me out to dry," Resendez said. "That's what I feel like. They've hung me out to dry."
At the time, Resendez was talking about Aflac Insurance. They have those commercials with that goofy duck.
The problem, according to Resendez, had to do with disability insurance that he purchased from Aflac.
Resendez told 3 On Your Side that after spending weeks in the hospital and after being rendered temporarily disabled by his doctor, Aflac seemed somewhat hesitant to pay him $1,700 a month as his policy indicated.
It's money Resendez says he needed.
"I've got car payments I've got to make, utilities, putting groceries on the table," he said.
So Resendez got a hold of 3 On Your Side.
"I was about ready to give up and 3 On Your Side was my last resort," he said.
3 On Your Side asked Aflac Insurance to look into Resendez's claim and they did.
After a brief investigation, Aflac discovered there was a problem with the paperwork submitted by Resendez's surgeon and doctor.
After finding and fixing that problem, Aflac cut Resendez a check for nearly $3,500.
In a statement to 3 On Your Side, an Alfac spokesman says, "We are pleased that a new medical report was faxed to Aflac last night that enabled Mr. Resendez's claim to be approved. We always pay claims in a timely manner when we have all the pertinent information."
Today, Resendez is grateful and feels he couldn't have gotten it done without 3 On Your Side.
"Yeah, I was pretty surprised," he said. "I got almost immediate results. Gary got a hold of them. It was almost immediate. They called me the next day and they were going out of their way to help me."
Aflac tells 3 On Your Side that they have very good record of paying their claims and in this particular case, they maintain they are the ones that discovered the mistake which was holding up Resendez's payout.
Regardless, Resendez is happy and Aflac is satisfied.
