MESA -- An armed suspect robbed a Mesa Wal-Mart early Thursday morning and nearly kidnapped a store employee.

At approximately 2:30 a.m., officers responded to the Wal-Mart store near Baseline and Lindsay roads.

According to the Mesa Police Department, a clerk said that a male suspect entered the store, put a gun in his back and directed him to open the cash room.

Police say the suspect took a large amount of cash from the store and then fled, forcing the victim to go with him out of the store.

The suspect took the victim to a vehicle parked on an adjacent street and tried to force the victim into the vehicle. When the victim resisted by pulling a knife, the suspect left him and fled in the suspect vehicle.

The suspect vehicle is described as an older model Cadillac or Buick. It is light blue with a white top.
