PEORIA -- Peoria police officers were able to catch a burglar after his cell phone called 911 during a robbery.

A little before 5 a.m. on March 31, the Peoria Police Communications Center received an open line after a call was placed to 911.

The communications specialist stayed on the line and was able to hear the suspect talking about having broken into cars, according to Peoria police spokesman Mike Tellef.

The communications specialist was able to determine the call came from the 9100 block of West Kings Avenue.

Tellef said when officers arrived on scene they contacted the suspect, who had the victim's car stereo in his hands. All items taken from the victim's vehicle were recovered.

The 16-year-old Peoria resident who lives in the area was interviewed by officers, released to his family and is pending charges in the Juvenile Court system.
