Tempe-based National Guard unit returns from IraqPosted: Updated:
PHOENIX -- Hundreds of family members gathered at Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport Friday morning to welcome home their loved ones from a 10-month deployment to Iraq.
The Tempe-based 996th Area Support Medical Company had more than 70 members on board a chartered Southwest Airlines plane that arrived at the Air National Guard hanger at the airport at about 7 a.m.
Among the dignitaries scheduled to greet them are Arizona National Guard Adjutant General David Rataczak and Gov. Janet Napolitano.
The Army National Guard unit's doctors, nurses and other members provided medical support and care at hospitals and trained medics while in Iraq.
