Teen left at hospital under Neb. safe-haven law brought from ArizonaPosted: Updated:
OMAHA, Neb. -- Two more teenagers have been abandoned at Nebraska hospitals under the state's much-criticized safe haven law.
One of them is a 16-year-old girl who had been living with her mother in Arizona for the last few months.
Police say the teen and her mom previously had lived in Papillion, south of Omaha, before moving to Arizona. They say the mother didn't give a reason for dropping the girl off yesterday afternoon, and that the girl was unaware she was being dropped off.
The head of Nebraska's Division of Children and Family Services says the girl had been a ward of the court in both Nebraska and Arizona.
He says it was his understanding that an Arizona judge agreed to dismiss the Arizona case last month at the request of the teen's mother, who sought to return to Nebraska.
