Smith's punishment stands after helmet-to-helmet hit on Boldin

PHOENIX -- The NFL has decided that the suspension and fine for New York Jets' safety Eric Smith stand.

Smith will sit out Sunday's game against Cincinnati and he will pay a $50,000 fine for his helmet-to-helmet hit on Arizona's Anquan Boldin on Sept. 28.

The league contends Smith committed a flagrant violation.

Boldin is out indefinitely after having surgery to repair a sinus fracture.
