Slumping Diamondbacks face skidding Dodgers in opener of three-game series

PHOENIX -- The Arizona Diamondbacks take a 3 1/2 game lead in the National League West into tonight's opener of a key three-game series against the Los Angeles Dodgers.

The Dodgers are in the throes of a seven-game losing streak after last night's 11-2 loss at Washington to the Nationals.

Arizona has yesterday off as the D-backs recover from getting swept in a three-game road trip by the San Diego Padres.

The D-backs have lost fourth straight overall and five of their last six games.

Arizona had 29 games left in the regular-season including six against the Dodgers.

Los Angeles has nine consecutive road losses -- the most since dropping 11 in a row in June 1992.

The Dodgers are averaging fewer than two runs a game during their losing streak.
