PHOENIX (3TV/CBS 5) - Olympic gold medallist and key note speaker at today's 13th annual Florence Crittenton's Teaming Up for Girls luncheon Amy Van Dyken-Rouen joined Good Morning Arizona to discuss adversity and helping girls to be strong and motivated in everything they do.

"Everyone has rough times, and it's how you deal with it that makes you who you are," she said. "You can choose to embrace it and look at it and learn from it, and move on, or you can hold on to it and go the other way. What's so cool is that if you look at it and learn from it, it just makes you such a cool person. Then when you face adversity later in your life, you can deal with it. That's what I want to tell these girls. Overcoming these things is so tough in the moment, but it's great at the end."

Van Dyken-Rouen is a six-time Olympic medal winner, among countless other honors that she has received for her strength, dedication and motivation.

The Teaming Up for Girls luncheon was at the Arizona Biltmore this morning. Nearly 900 business leaders and community members attended the event to try to help raise more than $500,000 to help support at-risk girls. The Teaming Up for Girls luncheon is an annual event.
