Heads in the clouds at Out West Balloon Fest

GLENDALE, AZ (3TV/CBS 5) -

More than 35 hot air balloons will decorate the sky this weekend at the first annual Out West Balloon Fest and Fun Run at the University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale.

From today, March 6 until Sunday March 8, visitors of all ages are invited to hot air balloon festivities including balloon glows tonight and Saturday night. The glow will feature balloons from bumblebees and butterflies to Smokey the Bear and more.

The event will also include food and novelty vendors, live music, wine and craft beer tastings and opportunities to meet the balloon pilots. There is also a kid's area with inflatable attractions, a climbing wall, and more.

On Saturday morning, there will be a family 5K fun run, with all proceeds benefiting the 100 Club of Arizona. Also on Saturday is the “Hare and Hound” balloon competition, where balloon pilots compete in accuracy and skill.

There will be a competitive balloon race on Sunday morning, where hot air balloon pilots will show off their skills by competing in a race to launch and land at one of three declared spots to win a prize.

Tickets range from $10 to $20 per person, and kids ages 12 and younger are free. Event schedules and more information can be found at outwestballoonfest.com.
