SCOTTSDALE, AZ (3TV/CBS 5) - A pedestrian sustained life-threatening injuries after being hit by a vehicle in Scottsdale Wednesday morning.

Scottsdale police said the 76-year-old man was crossing Scottsdale Road at Chaparral Road when he was struck by a vehicle around 9 a.m.

Sgt. Jim Butera said the man was not in a crosswalk.

"It appears that the pedestrian may have walked into the roadway in front of the vehicle, which was northbound in the middle lane," Butera said.

The man, who is from Canada, suffered severe head injuries and was transported to Scottsdale Healthcare Osborn Medical Center.

Butera said speed and impairment do not appear to be factors in the collision.

Northbound Scottsdale Road was closed from Camelback Road to Chaparral Road for the investigation.
