Attendees at Saturday's Verde River Days event held at Dead Horse Ranch State Park in Cottonwood came to a halt when a downpour forced the cancellation of the event.

Park Ranger Linda Hauk says the Saturday event was scheduled from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m., but heavy rains forced the remainder of the event to shut down around 11 a.m.

Hauk said some people attending the event were stranded in the park by high water that quickly rose in a wash.

There were no injuries reported.

Hauk said the people were waiting for the water to recede to make their way out of the park.

There are additional storms expected throughout the day in the area.
