STA Mane Event: 4 years, 60 feet of hair and growingPosted: Updated:
For something that takes years to grow, it was gone in seconds.
Nervous in front of their classmates yet determined, eight St. Thomas the Apostle students stepped forward and cut off 8 inches or more of their hair in service to others.
For the past four years, the Mustangs and a handful of parents and teachers have kicked off their yearly school-wide community service program with the 'Mane Event."
Volunteers cut off their ponytails and donate them to the American Cancer Society through the Pantene Beautiful Lengths program. In four years, STA girls have donated more than 60feet of hair making several wigs for cancer patients undergoing treatment.
Stylists from Salon Surreal donated their time and talents for the cause.
According to their website, Pantene Beautiful Lengths has received more than 500,000 ponytails donated to the American Cancer Society since 2006.
