ASU reaches record enrollmentPosted: Updated:
The fall semester starts today at Arizona State University with a record number of students taking classes.
ASU announced Thursday they anticipate an enrollment of more than 82,000 undergraduate and graduate students - a new record and nearly 8 percent higher than last year.
Preliminary first-day enrollment figures show more than 66,000 undergraduates and nearly 16,000 graduate students.
ASU spokeswoman Sharon Keeler said part of the growth is in the number of transfer and international students as well as veterans. The number of transfer students is up nearly 13 percent from fall 2013.
Enrollment by veterans increased 25 percent, while enrollment increased by a third to nearly 8,800 students.
The top countries for international enrollment are China, India, Saudi Arabia, South Korea and Canada.
The university received more than 46,000 applications for this year, a 25 percent increase over last year.
