Arizona United Soccer Club signs Arizona native George MalkiPosted: Updated:
Arizona United Soccer Club today announced the signing of midfielder and Arizona native George Malki, pending USL PRO and USSF approval.
"George is a great individual, and a very talented player," Arizona United SC General Manager Kevin Stevenson said. "We are looking forward to having him here. He's a local guy who made a name for himself in the youth scene and who has a lot of connections to the area. Having him until the end of the year will be great for both our team and him as a player."
Hailing from Scottsdale, Malki won six state championships as a member of Sereno Soccer Club and two Division II state titles at Pinnacle High School in 2008 and 2010. Malki was a three-time selection on the Arizona Republic All-State first team (2007-08, 2010), and was named Gatorade Arizona Boys Player of the Year as a senior in 2010.
Malki played collegiately at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo from 2010-13. A four-year starter, he scored seven goals and notched six assists in 73 appearances. He was drafted by Major League Soccer's Montreal Impact with the 37th pick in the 2014 MLS SuperDraft, but made no appearances for the club.
A former member of the United States U-18 and U-15 national player pools, Malki was one of 40 players selected in 2009 for the prestigious U-17 national team residency program in Bradenton, Fla.
