PEORIA, AZ (CBS5) -
A family gathering turned tragic when a man shot his older brother and then shot himself to death at a Peoria apartment complex late Wednesday night.
The mother and 45-year-old brother were visiting the 36-year-old man with two family friends at the Lake Pleasant Village apartments near 99th Avenue and Lake Pleasant Road just before midnight when an argument between the two turned violent, Amanda Jacinto of the Peoria Police Department said.
The younger man shot his brother three times, went to a bedroom and shot himself, Jacinto said. The older brother survived and was flown to a nearby hospital in very critical condition, Jacinto said.
The younger brother died at the scene and no one else was injured, Jacinto said.
It appears the brothers may have been arguing over a previous event involving Sanchez's girlfriend, Jacinto said.
Sanchez's older brother and his mother had been visiting from California for the past few days, Jacinto said. At the time of the shooting, all three family members, along with two roommates, were all inside the apartment, she added.
Investigators were continuing their investigation Thursday and no one at the complex was displaced, Jacinto said.
No other information was available.
