3-year-old caught in crossfire between arguing men, escapes unhurtUpdated:
An exchange of gunfire Monday between two men in Amite sent a stray bullet into a car with a 3-year-old inside.
No one was injured in the shooting.
At about 8 p.m., deputies responded to a home on Puleston Road in Amite for the second time that evening in response to a disturbance.
Deputies learned that 22-year-old Kenyon Mason, of Kentwood, and 20-year-old Brenton Mason, of Hammond, fired shots in random directions during a verbal fight. A stray bullet from Kenyon's .22 caliber handgun penetrated the rear window of a nearby car that was occupied by a man and his 3-year-old child. Before deputies arrived, both subjects fled into a nearby apartment but were subsequently arrested.
Kenyon Mason was booked with resisting an officer, cruelty to a juvenile, aggravated criminal damage to property, illegal discharge of a weapon, being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm and disturbing the peace.
Brenton Mason was booked with resisting an officer, being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm, disturbing the peace and four outstanding attachments.
