Golden Meadow man jailed for weekend crime spreeUpdated:
Lafourche Parish Sheriff's Deputies arrested a man for multiple incidents that occurred over a period of two days. Lionelle Cheramie, 25, of Golden Meadow was taken into custody Sunday evening.
Police say that early Saturday morning, deputies responded to a Golden Meadow home on an unauthorized use of a vehicle call. They learned that Cheramie was at the home the day before. He took the keys to a truck without the owner knowing. He came back later that night and stole the truck. Around 4:00 a.m. Saturday, the owner was notified that her truck was missing and as she walked outside, Cheramie came back with the vehicle. He returned the vehicle and the keys without talking to the owner. A warrant for unauthorized use of a vehicle was issued after deputies were unable to find Cheramie.
Later on that day, deputies responded to a theft at a Galliano department store. Cheramie was shown on surveillance footage, taking a cell phone from a store that he was previously banned from. Deputies learned that the theft occurred around 2:45 a.m. Saturday. Warrants for theft of goods and entering after being forbidden were also issued on Cheramie.
On Sunday, at 6:00 p.m. a call of a fight near Cheramie's home, came in to police. A nearby Golden Meadow officer was the first to arrive on the scene and he said that the fight had already ended and the people involved were no longer on site. He did notice that the front door to Cheramie's home was open. He called for additional officers and they made contact with Cheramie who was inside the home. He was arrested for the warrants.
While being transported to the Lafourche Parish Detention Center, Cheramie attempted to head butt one of the officers in addition to violently resisting arrest. While being transported in a police car, he was able to move his handcuffed hands from behind his back to his front. He used the cuffs to damage an electronic device in the car.
He was booked in the Lafourche Parish Jail on the three warrants in addition to charges for resisting an officer violently and simple criminal damage to property. His bond was set at $27,000.
