PHOENIX (CBS5) -

Police are investigating a fatal stabbing outside a North Phoenix apartment complex.

Officers said when they arrived at 18200 N. Cave Creek Rd. at around midnight Sunday, they discovered a man with multiple stab wounds lying in the parking lot.

Several bystanders were trying to render first aid, Phoenix police Sgt. Trent Crump said.

The victim, whose name hasn't been released, was rushed to a local hospital, where he later died. 

Witnesses told police as many as five people had been fighting in the parking lot, Crump said.

A second injured person may have fled on a motorcycle before officers got there, Crump added.
