PHOENIX (CBS5) -

A Phoenix home was saved from major damage and most of the personal belongings were saved from a fire Wednesday, according to fire officials.

Phoenix firefighters responded Wednesday morning and found the fire rapidly spreading in the attic area at a house near 16th Street and Thomas Road, Phoenix fire spokesman Mark Vanacore said.

Firefighters extinguished the fire and were able to cut a hole in the roof to prevent the fire from spreading further.

Fire officials are investigating what caused the blaze.
