University senior first baseman Michael Pomeroy garnered NCAA Division I
ABCA/Rawlings Gold Glove Award honors for the West Region, as announced by the
American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) today.
This marks Pomeroy's second straight regional Gold Glove Award, as he also won the honor last season when the Antelopes were members of the Pacific West Conference and NCAA Division II. Pomeroy was also selected as the best defensive first baseman in the country after being named to the national ABCA/Rawlings NCAA Division II Gold Glove Team.
During his senior campaign, Pomeroy collected 510 putouts and 54 assists in 564 total chances without an error for a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage. He started each of GCU's 53 games at first base this past season.
Along with his outstanding numbers defensively, Pomeroy hit .309 (67-for-217) with 21 runs scored, nine doubles, a triple, home run, and 31 RBI during the 2014 season. He strung together a 13-game hit streak from April 18-May 11, during which time he hit .417 (25-for-60). Pomeroy collected his 200th career hit in the eighth inning on May 5 at Washington.
Pomeroy last committed an error on April 26, 2012, ending his career with 110 consecutive errorless games.
