Biker rescued from south Phoenix mountain

PHOENIX (AP/CBS5) -

Firefighters had to airlift a man off a south Phoenix mountain after he crashed his mountain bike.

Fire Capt. Jonathan Jacobs says crews were called to South Mountain Park around 8 a.m. Saturday to assist a 42-year-old man.

Jacobs says the man was unable to proceed after the crash near the top of South Mountain on the Mormon trail.

Crews took about an hour on foot to reach him and then decided that hoisting him out by helicopter was best.

Jacobs says the man was safely flown to a landing area where he was taken to the hospital with injuries that weren't life-threatening.
