Grand Canyon University shortstop Kelsey Barak has been selected to the Capital One Academic All-American Division I softball team, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). Barak was one of four infielders to be selected to the second team of the release.

"We are so proud of Kelsey and her continued academic successes while she has been a great softball player for us for three years," said head coach Ann Pierson.

This is the second consecutive year the junior has received the accolade, as Barak and fellow junior Kayla Henry made history a season ago, being the first softball players in program history to be tagged with the honor.

The Fontana, Calif., native boasts a 3.91 GPA as an Exercise Science major. Barak hit at a .353 clip from the plate in 2014, recorded a team-best 54 hits and tallied a WAC-best 18 RBI during loop play. She connected on a team-high seven home runs this spring and also notched 11 doubles. The Canyon shortstop was equally as impressive in the field, finishing with a .961 fielding percentage after committing only seven errors in 48 games.

"She (Barak) is clearly committed to achieving the highest level of success as a student and is the epitome of a true student-athlete," added Pierson.

Barak, who started every game in 2014, was also a First Team All-WAC selection.

In just their first year at the Division I level and within WAC play, the Antelopes took home the WAC regular season title, finishing with an impressive 12-3 mark in league play and owned an overall record of 27-21.
