Four people were treated for smoke inhalation after a Mesa apartment caught fire Wednesday night.
One of the five occupants of the apartment had gone for a walk and when he returned shortly after 10 p.m. one his roommates told him his first-story apartment was on fire.
Firefighters attacked the fire on the ground and from a level above the apartment near Southern Avenue and Dobson Road.
Capt. Ted Hall of the Mesa Fire and Medical Department said one of those treated for smoke inhalation was taken to a hospital as a precaution.
Another person cut a hand on a broken window and was treated at the scene. No firefighters were injured.
Hall said the fire started somewhere in the middle of the unit and that an investigator would determine the exact cause.
There was no damage estimate given.
