An 11-year-old Phoenix child drowned in a backyard pool Wednesday afternoon, police said.
Ivan Nunez's 10-year-old brother tried to save his sibling but he was unable to provide help on his own, officers said.
Another brother who is 15 years old was called to help pull the boy from the above-ground pool at a home in the area of 10600 W. Hilton Avenue.
Nunez was airlifted to an area hospital in critical condition. He died a short time later.
Police said they learned the victim, described as a good swimmer, entered the pool and tried to remove the plastic cover.
It's not known if the boy somehow got entangled with the cover.
