West Springfield man identified in Worcester fatal stabbingPosted: Updated:
West Springfield native, Andrew Wagner, 31, was stabbed to death Wednesday evening in his Worcester home.
Prosecutors said the suspect was his fiancé, Stephanie Fernandes, 31.
Fernandes is charged with manslaughter and assault and battery with a dangerous weapon.
Her attorney said she allegedly stabbed Wagner out of self-defense.
Police were called to a home on Angelo Avenue just before 11 p.m. Wednesday for a report of a stabbing.
When they arrived, they said found Wagner unresponsive with a single stab wound.
He was brought to UMass Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.
Wagner's father told CBS 3, the family is distraught over the loss of their son.
Neighbors who lived next to Wagner for years said they will remember him for his compassion and kind heart.
"He was just a great guy. Everyone loved him. Everyone had such great stories about him," said one neighbor who wished to not be identified.
They said he was also an employee for several years at the local Costco.
According to the Worcester Telegram & Gazette, Fernandes was supposed to be arraigned on Thursday, but a judge ordered her to complete a 20-day competency evaluation before proceeding with the arraignment.
Fernandes is do back in court on May 27.
