Watch: Zoo's Gorillas prep for Easter with annual egg hunt
CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) -
Many families celebrate the Easter season with a traditional egg hunt. The same is true for the Cincinnati Zoo's newest family.
The Cincinnati Zoo's gorilla family - one-year-old Gladys, Jomo the silverback, M'Linzi, Mara, Samantha, Asha and Anju - prepare for big Easter Celebration with their annual Gorilla Easter Egg Hunt.
Thursday marked Gladys' first Easter Egg Hunt at the Cincinnati Zoo. Baby Gladys and the rest of the gorilla family searched for several Easter baskets filled with peanuts, raisins, popcorn, sunflower seeds and granola, as well as dozens of colorful hard-boiled eggs, hidden throughout the exhibit.
Hunting for eggs is not only an Easter tradition at the Zoo, it's also a nutritious treat and a great enrichment activity for the gorillas. Like humans, gorillas enjoy peeling each egg first.
Also, hunting for the treats is actually a lot like the behavior these animals would display in the wild while foraging for food.
