A 103-year-old Longmeadow resident and lifelong Boston Red Sox fan got a very special birthday gift Thursday afternoon.
Ivan Hoyt got to see the Red Sox World Series trophy in person at his Glenmeadow retirement community.
Hoyt has been alive for all but one of the franchise's World Series wins. He spent most of his life in Boston before moving to Longmeadow in 2008 to be close to his two sons.
He said he remembers sneaking into Fenway Park when he was younger, and he has even brought the tarp out on the field during rain delays.
When asked about the Red Sox 86-year World Series drought, Hoyt said he never gave up on the team. Hoyt said Ted Williams is his favorite player of all time.
