For the third straight year, GCU senior outside hitter Ben Ponnet has earned All-Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association honors.

Announced by the league Wednesday, Ponnet, the league leader, and fourth in the nation, in kills per set (4.17) was named first team All-MIVA.

The Merchtem, Belgium standout is GCU's all-time leader in kills (1,496) and service aces (126). Earlier this season, he set the school's single-match record for kills with 31 in a four-set win over Quincy, March 8 at Antelope Gymnasium.

"It's a nice culmination to Ben's career here at GCU. He'll leave here the holder of a lot of records," said GCU coach Jeremy Price.

Ponnet was named first team All-MIVA in 2012 and to the second team in 2013.

Ponnet and the Antelopes begin post season play Friday with a MIVA quarterfinal match at No. 11 Lewis. The Antelopes lost twice last weekend at Lewis to end the regular season.

"It's obviously a big challenge for us," said Price. "It will need to be an entire team effort. We're playing a team with a lot of deserving all-conference players and we'll have to play our best match of the year."
