Mickey Rooney's daughter speaks about the legendary actor's lifePosted: Updated:
Kerry Mac said growing up she had no idea her father, Mickey Rooney, was a star. But it was always evident he had a gift.
"He would just be standing there being dad, and as soon as he heard some music or a song he would just break out," said Mac.
The actor passed away Sunday at the age of 93. Rooney's career spanned nine decades.
"His mom and his dad were in vaudeville so when he was a young baby he just jumped up on stage and that was it," said Mac.
Though the years the actor starred in countless classics like Breakfast at Tiffany's, the Andy Hardy series and Sugarbabies. Mac said she's not sure what role was his favorite. But knew he had an affinity for working with one particular leading lady.
"He loved Judy Garland so much. They were just like brother and sister. So anything that he did with her was probably at the top of his list," said Mac.
Rooney's personal life also attracted a lot of attention. The actor was married eight times and had eight children.
"He had a lot of things go wrong in his life. A lot of marriages. He loved love. He didn't care what people had to say. He just lived his life the way he wanted to," said Mac.
Mac remembered the last time she spoke to her dad.
"He said, 'I love you.' And I got to tell him I love you. And that's a blessing in itself," said Mac.
Tonight she and her family are thankful for the outpouring of support they've received.
"We want to thank them so much for their comfort and their prayers. It really lifts us up," said Mac.
Mac said her father went to the doctor two weeks ago and everything seemed fine. She said he died in his sleep of natural causes. The family is still in the process of working out funeral arrangements.
