Medical Examiner identifies suspect shot by deputies in Middleburg Hts.

MIDDLEBURG HEIGHTS, OH (WOIO) -

The Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner has identified the man shot and killed by Sheriff Deputies in Middleburg Heights.

Israel Rondon, 65, was involved in a shooting with deputies on the rear porch of his home on Sheldon Road on Tuesday afternoon.

The medical examiner says the cause of death was a gunshot wound to the head. 

Deputies say Rondon fired a 22-caliber rifle at them as they tried to serve a warrant. A deputy returned fire, killing Rondon. The deputy is a veteran who did two tours in Afghanistan.

Rondon was wanted for probation violation, assault on a police officer and a CCW violation. Police tell 19 Action News Rondon hadn't reported for probation since February of last year.

No law enforcement officials were injured.
