HAMDEN, CT (WFSB) -
Two men were arrested after police said they attempted to use counterfeit bills at a Walgreens store in Hamden on Friday.
Officers were called to the Walgreens on Dixwell Avenue where they saw 28-year-old James Luna running through the parking lot and into a motor vehicle with 32-year-old Jorge Hidalgo inside.
Police stopped the vehicle and Luna and Hidalgo were arrested.
Before the arrest, Luna went to the Walgreens' counter with some "inexpensive items" and police said he attempted to purchase those items with a counterfeit $100 bill.
The staff at Walgreens called police after they realized it could be a counterfeit $100 bill. Luna fled the store and was quickly arrested.
Investigators said Hidalgo entered the store earlier in the day and received $90 in change from a $100 counterfeit bill.
Officers found $2,000 inside an envelope in the vehicle.
Both men were charged with first-degree forgery, conspiracy to commit sixth-degree larceny and interfering with a police officer. Hidalgo was also charged with conspiracy to commit first-degree forgery and sixth-degree larceny
Both men are being held on $100,000 bond and are scheduled to be arraigned at Meriden Superior Court on March 26.
