Strong Performance on platform qualifies Ricotta for NCAAsPosted: Updated:
A day after sophomore Rafael Quintero punched his ticket to the NCAA Championships, junior Dominic Ricotta joined him after a third-place finish on the platform on the final day of the Zone E Diving Championships on Saturday at the Air Force Academy's Cadet Natatorium.
Following prelims, Ricotta was in fifth-place but a strong final lifted him to a third-place finish with 717.11 points. The third-place finish earned Ricotta the final spot into the NCAA Championships, marking his first career appearance at NCAAs.
Quintero followed up his second-place finish in the 1-meter competition with a fifth-place finish in the platform with 678.36 points.
On the women's side, freshman Sally Hackett advanced to the finals of the platform event where she finished seventh with 484.85 points.
Ricotta and Quintero will now prepare for the NCAA Championships which will take place in Austin, Texas from March 27-29.
