GCU leads the all-time series 3-1, although the teams last played in 1971 when the school was known as Northeast Louisiana State. ULM is a member of the Sun Belt Conference.
The Antelopes advanced to the 2013 NCAA Division II Baseball Championships for the first time in school history after winning the West Region Championship, which included three elimination games for GCU. The 'Lopes boasted an impressive 40-19 overall record, the most victories for the program since winning 43 games in 1990. GCU won a share of the Pacific West Conference crown with a 26-10 record, the first time the 'Lopes have sat atop the conference standings since joining in 2007.
GCU was picked to finish fifth in the 10-team Western Athletic Conference, as voted on by league head coaches. Bakersfield, who won a share of the WAC regular season title in 2013, was chosen as the preseason favorite after garnering eight first-place votes. New Mexico State and Sacramento State each received one first-place vote and were selected to finish second and third, respectively. Utah Valley was voted to finish fourth.
