TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) -

WTOL 11 and FOX Toledo anchor Chrys Peterson was honored with an official proclamation from the city on Tuesday.

Council voted unanimously to honor Chrys for her "selfless service to the Toledo community."

Chrys will be leaving WTOL 11 and FOX Toledo at the end of the month to spend more time with her family.

At Tuesday's meeting council members took turns telling stories about first meeting Chrys, watching her on television over the years and seeing her at various community events and fundraisers. Many council members said they felt Chrys' accomplishments off the air are even more important than all she has done on television. City leaders mentioned Chrys' work with Race for the Cure and Home for Keeps.

"That's a lot to be proud of. In many respects, for being a non-Toledoan, you are the city's biggest cheerleader and I think that too is something that we should all be proud of," said councilman Tom Waniewski.

"As you reinvent yourself, which I'm sure you will, the world is a better place, Toledo is a much better place because you've graced us with your presence. And thank you so very much," said Mayor D. Michael Collins.

Chrys thanked the mayor and members of council for the honor. She also took home a framed copy of the official proclamation.
