A Gilbert man is accused of physically abusing three children and threatening to "cut them to pieces" after the juveniles contacted police.

Joseph Viado, 49, was arrested on Feb. 10, and booked into jail on child abuse charges. He was released two days later after posting a $5,000 bond. Under the bond terms, he was ordered to stay away from the victims, two boys and one girl. He also was ordered to wear an ankle monitor.

A 14-year-old boy alleged Viado had struck him several times using his elbows and knees. He also said the man had thrown a butter knife at him, striking his left side. Police said the boy showed them other marks on his side that were from being forced up against a wall.

A 15-year-old boy also alleged Viado struck him on his arm and body on multiple occasions and, on Feb. 7, pushed him to the ground. The victim claimed Viado kneeled on his chest and struck him on his face and body.

Also that day Viado allegedly stuck a grilling utensil down the boy's throat, causing him to throw up, because he was upset after seeing the boy eat breakfast, police said.

The 16-year-old victim told police she witnessed Viado hitting her brothers on multiple occasions.

According to court documents, all three victims reported that Viado had threatened them with knives and forks, allegedly telling them he would "cut them to pieces."
