The driver involved in a one-vehicle rollover could face a bevy of charges after trying to run from Mesa police officers Tuesday morning.
The officers tried to top a red Toyota pickup truck about 5:10 a.m., pulling the vehicle over in the area of University Drive and Higley Road, said Mesa police Sgt. Tony Landato.
While the driver initially pulled to the side of the road, he sped off as one of the officers walked toward the driver's door, Landato said.
The officer was struck by the door and side of the truck as it sped off, Landato said.
Officers followed the truck into a nearby neighborhood, where the truck took a corner too fast and rolled on its side, according to the report.
The driver suffered undetermined injuries but is expected to survive. He was being tested for driving under the influence, according to the report.
There was no word on the officer's condition.
Landato said the driver could face charges of aggravated assault on law enforcement, unlawful flight, possible DUI (drugs) and some traffic violations, Landato said.,
