Gun violence increases in border town

TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

Automatic weapons and hand grenades rang out in two difference areas of Agua Prieta early Saturday morning.

The area, which lies across the border from Douglas, has seen an increase in violence with two cartels fighting for control of the area, authorities say.

A Mexican station posted a video to Youtube, showing some of the damage from the incident.

No Americans were killed, but Cochise County Sheriff Mark Daniels says the department is on high alert and has increased security.

Pamela Jacks says she is too afraid to enter Mexico.

"I used to go back and forth but when all of this drug business started coming up, then I stopped going over ther as often…and now it's been a few years…I just won't go," Jacks said.

A similar attack came a month ago when a deadly shootout occurred between authorities and drug cartel members in Rocky Point.
